Why do so many parents have no idea what to do with their kids?

I think the biggest issue for parents who hold secular philosophies is that they have no idea what they are doing. I do not mean that in a slanderous way like I am calling them idiots. Literally, I think they do not know what to do. Here is why...

It seems a bit presumptuous/arrogant to insist that your children act just like you. So, though you have an established system of morals and ethics (naturalism, humanism, etc.) you feel bad insisting that your child or teen follow your ideas. So, you let them decide for themselves. Incidentally, you then have young children making very difficult decisions for themselves based on their limited experience. It should not be a surprise when they go "off the rails." It is actually shocking when these children occasionally turn out healthy and well-adjusted.

For the believer it is much simpler. We say (hopefully) "Follow me as I follow Christ." The Apostle Paul was not being arrogant when he said "Imitate me as I imitate Christ." (1 Corinthians 11:1) He was just encouraging believers to follow the template which he himself was following. We should and can tell our children the same thing--"Daddy is trying to be just like Jesus. So, you should try to be just like Daddy." How's that for pressure?
