On Sunday we discussed Paul's admonition to Timothy to be a useful vessel (tool, instrument) that is ready for every opportunity.  Paul said we become useful as we cleanse ourselves from what is dishonorable.  He describes for Timothy what that cleansing looks like in verse 22: "So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace..."  We discussed a few things that Paul might have intended in this broad admonition.

  1. Can you find and example from Scripture or another source if necessary of something that would be considered a "youthful desire or passion"?
  2. Is the passing of time (maturing with age) the only way to overcome these youthful passions?
  3. What is an example of a foolish or ignorant controversy that one might be tempted to engage in, but would only likely result in a divisive quarrel?

Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday!
