In discussing the qualifications for a church leader in 1 Timothy 3:6-7 it says, He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, into a snare of the devil.

  1. Prepare to discuss one danger or the other: being a recent convert or having a bad reputation in the local community. 
    • Are there any other Scriptural warnings against these disqualifiers?
    • Are there any Biblical instances of a leader derailed by these issues?
  2. What is the danger the church faces from the devil (here and in other passages)?
