On Sunday we discussed Paul's warning against shipwrecked faith (1 Timothy 1:18-20).  He encouraged Timothy to fight the good fight as part of his spiritual warfare.  Ephesians 6:10-20 lists the spiritual armor that we are to use in our spiritual warfare.  Choose a piece of that armor and describe how it is beneficial to the believer in spiritual warfare and specifically how it arms us to combat the possibility of falling away (shipwrecking our faith).

We also discussed the topic of the believer's conscience.  We discussed 5 big ideas about the conscience:

  1. An internal rational capacity that bears witness to our value system.
  2. A trustworthy guide only when it is informed and ruled by God.
  3. It should be subordinated to, and informed by, the revealed Word of God.
  4. To willfully act against conscience is always a sin.
  5. It can be suppressed by sin.

What role does the conscience play in helping us to avoid being like Hymenaeus and Alexander?

What is the connection between mutual accountability and the role of our conscience?

1 Timothy 1:12-17

In verse 12 Paul said that God chose him for service ,not because he was perfect, but because he was faithful.

-Who else did God chose for a task because of their faithfulness, and what similarities are there betweeen Paul and your character?

-In verse 13 Paul said that God was merciful because Paul had been ignorant. About what other passage or story does that remind you? What does that tell us about God's character/personality?
