Study Questions for 06/27/2017

  1. We discussed Naomi's reaction to the famine, and the deaths of her husband and 2 sons.  In no uncertain terms, Naomi accused God of dealing with her in an unkind way.  Find another Bible character that came to the same point of spiritual crisis that Naomi did.  Describe their situation and how they dealt with it.
  2. We briefly examined the lyrics of William Cowper's hymn God Moves In A Mysterious Way.  Find another hymn or poem that deals with the idea of God's sovereign control over the course of our lives.
  3. We discussed Boaz as both a type of Christ and the Kinsman Redeemer.  We looked at 1 Peter 1:18-20 and how Jesus is described as redeeming us with his blood.  The concept of redeeming (buying back) something for money makes sense.  But how is it possible that Jesus could buy us with his blood?

Study Questions for 6/13/2017

  1. The Israelites created memorials for themselves to remind themselves of the work that God had done on their behalf (altars, stones, etc.).  What are some ways that we can make memorials for ourselves?
  2. The most difficult issue in the book of Joshua is God's command to destroy the inhabitants of Canaan.  How can we justify God's actions in destroying Israel's enemies?

Topics for 06/06/17

Please read the passage and be prepared to discuss the topics.

Philippians 4:14-23


-The word "yet" comes between verses 13 and 14. Based on the message Sunday and your personal understanding of these verses, write 2-3 sentences about the importance of relying on your own God-given abilities and also accepting the help of others.

-v.17 mentions that the generosity of the Philipian church will be credited to their account. Where else in Scripture do we see the concept of reward for kindness/good works?
