Titus 2:11-12

There is an article circulating on the different social networks entitled "Why I Miss Being a Born-Again Christian" written by a lady named Jessica Misener. One of the big points of the article was that she felt like such a better person when she was following Christian principles (selflessness, humility, kindness, generosity), but she wandered from the faith after going to grad school to study religion and coming to the conclusion that the Bible is flawed.

Titus 2:9-10

Slavery in the Bible is a hot-button topic...with good reason. The issue, though obviously touchy, is nevertheless mentioned in this chapter. So, what can we learn. First, this passage does not condone or promote slavery--it simply acknowledges it. At the time this book was written some believers were slaves. Now, I doubt anyone who reads this today is a slave, but there are certainly still lessons for us.

Titus 2:7-8

In the past few verses of this chapter there have been specific instructions for different groups of believers. Now, these instructions are for everyone--don't do anything stupid!

Titus 2:6


We have seen instructions for mature men and women, and then we saw directions for younger women. So, now it is time for young men. The young men get one command--be self-controlled. Now, at first glance this is humorous. The young women just received a whole laundry list of instruction, so why do the young men receive proportionately so little?

Titus 2:4-5


When someone begins working at the Home Depot, they spend several days doing online video training. This training is partly to ensure that the new employee knows how to do his job, but it is largely attempting to indoctrinate this person into a culture--a distinct way of doing things. Employees of the Home Depot are often reminded that things need to be done a certain way because they are held to a high standard--your conduct reflects on the company at large.
